Holding Against Extremes

The Oxford hub of Mothers Who Make is pleased to announce the opening of a multi-media art exhibit focused on climate emergency, to be held in The Lucy Room in Oxford’s iconic theatre, the Oxford Playhouse.

In the collaborative and stimulating atmosphere of monthly Mothers Who Make meetings, we have found ourselves confronting the looming environmental crisis of climate change. We aim to articulate through our artistic practice the responsibility we have toward our children to protect this planet, and to amplify the call for urgent social and political change. This group show includes visual artists, poets, musicians, and organisers, and will be a dynamic celebration of our power as creative and conscientious mothers. All are welcomed to attend; however, the Lucy Room is on the first floor of the Playhouse and is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.

The exhibit, titled “Holding Against Extremes: Mothering and Making in a Time of Climate Emergency,” will be held from Wednesday 12th June 2019 until Tuesday 2nd July, 2019, with an opening reception featuring poetry, music, and facilitated discussion, on Wednesday 12th June from 12:30 – 2:00pm.

Mothers Who Make is a growing national initiative aimed at supporting mothers who are artists – emerging or professional. Every kind of maker is welcomed, and every kind of mother. Oxford Mothers Who Make meets monthly at the Playhouse, children always welcome.
