Envisioning a Green Future with Dieter Helm and Cameron Hepburn

Two 20 minute talks by Dieter Helm and Cameron Hepburn, followed by a half hour Q&A.

The event is FREE but requires an eventbrite ticket to attend. Open to all (students and the wider public).

Struggling to imagine what a green future actually looks like? Dying to know what action we must now take? Dieter will briefly talk about his vision for a Green and Properous Britain and then Cameron will offer some insights into the international picture of governments, institutions and investments. The event will end with a half hour Q&A. Please note that there is no step-free access to this event.

Dieter Helm CBE is an economist specialising in utilities, infrastructure, regulation and the environment, and concentrating on the energy, water, communications and transport sectors primarily in Britain and Europe. He is a Professor at the University of Oxford and Fellow of New College, Oxford. In December 2015, Dieter was reappointed as Independent Chair of the Natural Capital Committee, an independent advisory body to the UK Government which will take forward the implementation of the new 25-year Environment Plan. Dieter’s recent books include ‘Burn Out: The Endgame for Fossil Fuels’, ‘The Carbon crunch: Revised and Updated and Natural Capital’: ‘Valuing the Planet’ and most recently, ‘Green and Prosperous Land: A Blueprint for Rescuing the British Countryside’ (2019).

Cameron Hepburn is┬áDirector and Professor of Environmental Economics at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, a Fellow at New College, Oxford, and a Professorial Research Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics. He has published widely on energy, resources and environmental challenges across a range of disciplines, including engineering, biology, philosophy, economics, public policy and law. His most recent publication is ‘Principles to guide investment towards a stable climate. Nature Climate Change’ (2018).┬áCameron also provides advice on energy and climate policy to government ministers (e.g. China, India, UK and Australia) and international institutions (e.g. OECD, UN organisations) around the world
