Betjeman Bike Ride to Uffington
2018 sees the 6th annual Betjeman Bike-Ride, starting from Betjeman Park at 2pm on Sunday June 24th .
It’s purpose is to raise money for wonderful Betjeman Park in Wantage, to help pay for bulbs & flowers and maintain paths and trees. Described as an ‘oasis of calm in the centre of town’ the park sits alongside the Letcombe Brook, a chalk stream, that is home to protected species such as the White-clawed Crayfish and Water Voles.
The event is run with the generous support of Cycling UK Wantage and local sponsors, and the bike-ride has another purpose – to encourage young & old to pedal a gentle route under Cycling UK Wantage guidance from Wantage to Uffington (two of the places the Betjemans lived when they were in the Vale) and reward themselves with tea & cake at St. Mary’s Church before pedalling triumphantly home!
